Raised in California, Chicago-born creative director Matthew M. Williams has worked with top talents from the worlds of art, music, and fashion throughout his decade-long career, shaping a refined aesthetic universe grounded in street culture. Matthew M. Williams launched his own womenswear label, 1017 ALYX 9SM, in 2015. Drawing inspiration from global urban subculture of his California youth, the brand offers a subversive marriage of pragmatic luxury and streetwear iconography. Williams has been named as one of the semifinalists for 2016’s LVMH Young Designer Prize. On 15 June 2020, the House of Givenchy announced that Matthew would take over as Creative Director.
